During Friday’s practice sessions, the Modena engine packages displayed strong lap times in the dry track conditions, but everything changed during Saturday’s race day. Wet conditions throughout the day led to racing on rains the entire day, but this didn’t stop the Modena drivers from some stellar performances during the events. Driver Jason Alden put his Modena-powered Cosmic package on pole during qualifying, and in the pre-final, Modena took a 1-2 finish with Van der Steur snagging the top spot and TB Kart driver Cole Mathewson finishing 2nd.
During the final event, the wet track continued to make for tricky racing conditions. Starting at the front of the pack, Mathewson had an early lead but had to retire about halfway through the race due to mechanical problems, while Van der Steur fought with the rest of the pack at the front, managing to secure a 3rd place finish. Overall, engine builder and Modena distributor Phil Davis was happy with the results. “It was tough weekend with the rainy weather, and a wet track can always create some difficulties that as a driver you can’t always prepare for. But nevertheless we had some great performances and the Modena engine package really shined in both the dry and the wet conditions. We’re looking forward to even more podium results and hopefully some drier weather at Pitt Race next month!”
